What Is a Certificate of Insurance?
A Certificate of Insurance (COI) summarizes insurance information, including the insurance company, policy dates, types of coverage, and limits shown. A client, property owner, general contractor, or another organization may request one as proof of insurance.
A certificate documents coverage. It does not change your policy or create additional coverage.

This option is for certificates that do not require additional insured status, special wording, or other changes to your coverage.

What to Expect
When Will I Receive My Certificate?
Complete requests for standard certificates received before 2:00 p.m. Eastern on a business day can typically be processed that same day. Requests received after 2:00 p.m. are generally processed the next business day. Policy changes or insurance company approval may require additional time.

When Extra Time Is Needed
Some requests involve more than documenting existing coverage. Additional time may be needed for:
- Additional insured status that requires a new endorsement.
- Waivers of subrogation or primary and noncontributory requirements.
- Higher limits, new coverage, or other policy changes.
- Special wording or review of contractual insurance requirements.
- Missing information or insurance company approval.
An endorsement changes your insurance policy. Naming someone as a certificate holder does not make them an additional insured. Our team must verify whether your existing policy provides the requested status or whether an endorsement is needed. Policy changes may involve additional premium.
These processing expectations apply to requests handled by our team, not eligible app self-service issuance.
